Importance of Sensory: 5 Senses

As we grow up we learn about the importance of our senses. They help us understand our world and how we connect to it. Our senses inform us and protect us.

The Five Senses are:
Sight
                               Sound
Touch
Taste

                                Smell

Each sense is processed in a different part of the brain.

For me, my brain processes the senses differently. I am like any others out there, who have a brain that processes the information from the senses in a different way. Sometimes my brain is hypersensitive to a certain sense, like sound. I can pick up the slightest change in the background noise, so if there is construction going on it is hard for me to focus on the task I am supposed to be doing. Or even sight, my eyes can detect the slightest flicker in overheard lights and it often gives me a headache.
Other times my brain is hypo-sensitive to a certain sense. Sometimes I need a tighter hug to know that someone is hugging me. Other times I need the volume of the conversation to be louder because I cannot hear the conversation at the frequency they are talking. Growing up the hypersensitivity and the hypo-sensitivity was triggering for me, leading to many tantrums, meltdowns, and panic attacks. But the senses also would help me calm down from those triggers too. It was about experimenting with what worked for me. Try it for yourself, the things that calm you might surprise you.
